The Sioux City Roller Dames were founded February 2008 in Sioux City, Iowa by Libby and Phil Claeys with the help of many skaters and volunteers, many of which are still associated with and/or are playing on the team. The original interest meeting was held at Mac Behr's on historic 4th street and the idea of roller derby in Sioux City took off full speed, drawing interest throughout the community. Phil Claeys used his vast networking circle throughout the area to help gather sponsors to finacially stablize the league until it was able to create a fanbase large enough to support the league. The Roller Dames have since been incorporated and granted non-profit status. The league gives back to the community by giving a portion of the proceeds from every bout to an organization in need. They have previously given to groups such as Girls Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Sioux City Vets Center. The Roller Dames also volunteer their time to help out various organizations - for example they recently hosted a skating clinic for Girls Inc. to help the girls build skating skills as well as confidence.

The Roller Dames have two intraleague teams, The Dirty Players Club and the Siouxicide Shockers. The team mostly bouts against teams from other cities and during their first season they have played the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz, No Coast Derby Girls, The Big Mouth Mickies, The Quad City Rollers, and The North Star Rollergirls. In November of 2008, the Dames hosted their first tournament, Rolling Along the River, in which 5 teams from the surrounding area attended for one full day of nonstop derby action. The tournament was a huge success and ended with a historic championship bout in which two highly respected neighboring cities went head to head for the first time ever - The Minnesota Rollergirls and The North Star Rollergirls.

The Sioux City Roller Dames are always looking for new skaters to join us. No experience necessary. We will teach you skating techniques, roller derby strategy, and (most importantly) how to fall so you don't injure yourself. We also need volunteers so if you weren't blessed with female parts, no worries. We need skating and non-skating referees, score keepers, penalty keepers, and even half time entertainment! If you're interested in helping out or joining up, you can find contact information under the "contact us" tab.
